Davis To Be inducted into Martin Luther King Collegium of Scholars at Morehouse College

Charles H.F. Davis III, CSPHE faculty member and director of the Campus Abolition Research Lab, has been selected for induction into the 38th Martin Luther King, Jr. College of Ministers and Laity’s Collegium of Scholars at Morehouse College.

Sponsored by the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel, the annual College of Ministers & Laity is the Chapel’s signature program. Founded in 1978 by Morehouse College’s seven president, Dr. Hugh Morris Gloster, Sr., the Chapel has attracted some of the brightest minds across an array of disciplines to engage in dialogue, learning, growing and revealing. The College of Ministers & Laity is comprised of four entities: the Board of Preachers, Board of Sponsors, College of Pastoral Leadership, and Collegium of Scholars. Induction into the Martin Luther King Jr. College of Ministers & Laity honors individuals who have shown commitment to the adaptive faithful servant-scholar moral cosmopolitan leadership tradition and selfless service to humanity, in tribute to Dr. King. The Collegium of Scholars specifically is comprised of inter/nationally renown academics and scholars, who may or may not be in the professoriate, who are "committed to research, writing, teaching and mentoring in a wide variety of disciplines and contexts that promote and give support to the work of peace through moral cosmopolitan social responsibility."

This generous recognition is merely a call to action that, in this moment, compels me to honor Dr. King’s righteous indignation in the fights against capitalism, militarism, and racism. This includes ending the genocide of Palestinians and the post-colonial suffering of all peoples in the Global South.
— Dr. Charles H.F. Davis III, CARL Director

As the name suggests, induction into the College of Ministers & Laity is also an opportunity to expose public leaders to the ethical tradition and principles that guided Dr. King’s life and work. Members of the College of Ministers & Laity are challenged to integrate these principles into their own life and work as well as serve as exemplars for their professional peers, those whom they mentor in their roles as visible public leaders. The programs, ceremonies and events that comprise the annual gathering of the College of Ministers & Laity on the Morehouse campus is an opportunity to meet and engage like-minded individuals who are inspired and committed to building the Ultimate Beloved Economic Cosmic Community.

Nominations for induction into the Martin Luther King Jr. College of Ministers & Laity are submitted to the Office of the Dean of the Chapel by former inductees into the boards and collegium of the College; faculty, staff and alumni of Morehouse College; and distinguished citizens at large. These nominations are reviewed by the Dean of the Chapel, Dr. Lawrence Edward Carter Sr., and invitations for induction into the Board of Preachers, Board of Sponsors or Collegium of Scholars are extended based on the individual’s credentials, professional location and how they identify themselves personally and professionally.

Dr. Davis will be inducted at the Benjamin Elijah Mays Crown Forum on April 11th.
